Located in the Northeast area of El Paso, North Hills is a quiet suburban community with a vibrant middle class. Considered one of the nicer areas in north El Paso, North Hills has an active neighborhood association which unites North Hills apartment dwellers and home owners for common concerns. Adjacent to Bureau of Land Management land and a levee, North Hills is also close to Franklin Mountain State Park, the largest urban park in the United States. This area provides hiking and biking opportunities to North Hills apartment and house inhabitants.

Community and sporting events are common in North Hills. Home to a highly competitive football and cheerleading teams for the 8- to 11-year-old age group, the North Hills Dolphin Football program is widely supported within the community and considered a great entry point into middle school sports. The North Hills high schools are also known for their competitive athletic programs.

For seniors, the Senior Games are an annual athletic event that encourages adults who are at least 50 years of age to compete against one another in a wide variety of activities. Although they are sponsored by the North Hill Neighborhood Association, activities occur throughout the city of El Paso. Visitors to El Paso can also participate, and the competitors are broken into age groups at five year increments to even the playing field.

For North Hills apartment residents who are willing to venture into the city, the Plaza Theatre is one of the most famous landmarks in the city of El Paso. Broadway productions, concerts and other performances are all common fare for this famous theater.
